The Simien Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are famous for jagged escarpments dropping thousands of meters and for the gelada, a monkey species found only in Ethiopia that lives in large grass-grazing troops you will walk directly through. This trek reaches Ras Dashen (4,550 m), Ethiopia's highest peak, with camping throughout the range and mules carrying the heavy gear.
Enter the park and begin walking along the escarpment edge, spectacular views from the first afternoon.
