The route begins on the western side of the mountain and crosses beautiful rainforest, moorland, the Shira Plateau, alpine desert, and the Arctic summit zone. With 8 days on the mountain, the itinerary provides a good pace for acclimatization and gives trekkers more time to adjust to the increasing altitude. The climb culminates at Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa, before descending through the southern side of the mountain.
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a morning transfer from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate, where you complete registration and meet your mountain crew. From the gate, continue to the Lemosho trailhead and begin hiking through the beautiful montane rainforest. The trail is peaceful and surrounded by tall trees, plants, and birdlife. After several hours of hiking, arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, where your crew will prepare dinner and you will spend your first night on the mountain.

After breakfast, continue hiking through the rainforest before gradually entering the moorland zone. The vegetation becomes shorter and the landscape opens up as you climb higher. Continue toward the Shira Plateau, enjoying spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon and relax while your team prepares dinner.
Today is a relatively gentle hiking day across the spectacular Shira Plateau. Walk through open moorland and volcanic landscapes while enjoying views of Kibo Peak. This gradual ascent helps your body adapt to the altitude. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp in the afternoon and have plenty of time to rest and enjoy the mountain scenery.
After breakfast, leave Shira and begin ascending toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,600 m. This is an important acclimatization day because you climb high and then descend to sleep at a lower altitude. The landscape changes into an impressive alpine desert, with unique plants such as giant groundsels and lobelias. After lunch near Lava Tower, descend toward Barranco Camp, where you will spend the night beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall.
After breakfast, begin the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. Your guide will assist you through the steeper sections as you make your way upward. Once above the wall, continue across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Valley. Enjoy spectacular views of Kibo Peak before arriving at Karanga Camp for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, continue toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit. The trail becomes increasingly rocky and the vegetation becomes very sparse. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the summit attempt. You will have an early dinner and go to bed early because you will wake around midnight.
Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Trek slowly through the darkness toward Stella Point, located on the crater rim. From there, continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m. Reach the summit around sunrise, weather permitting, and enjoy the incredible views before taking photographs and beginning your descent. Descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Millennium Camp for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, begin your final descent through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The trail becomes greener and easier as you lose altitude. At the gate, complete the park exit procedures and receive your summit certificate if applicable. Meet your vehicle and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest, marking the end of your 8 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing Tour.
Starts in Arusha/Moshi, ends in Moshi.
