Machame takes you through several beautiful ecological zones, from lush rainforest to moorland, alpine desert, and the Arctic summit zone. The 7-day itinerary provides a better acclimatization schedule than the shorter 5-day option, increasing your opportunity to adapt to altitude before attempting Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters.
Your adventure starts with a morning transfer from Moshi or Arusha to Machame Gate. After registration and meeting your mountain crew, begin hiking through the lush rainforest. The trail is surrounded by tall trees, tropical vegetation, and birdlife. After several hours, arrive at Machame Camp, where you will have dinner and spend your first night on the mountain.

After breakfast, continue climbing through the rainforest before entering the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper, and the vegetation gradually becomes shorter. Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape as you approach the Shira Plateau. Arrive at Shira Camp in the afternoon and relax.
After breakfast, begin the day's hike toward Lava Tower, climbing to approximately 4,600 m. This is an important acclimatization day because you climb high and then descend to Barranco Camp. Along the way, experience the dramatic alpine desert landscape and see unique high-altitude plants. After lunch near Lava Tower, descend toward Barranco Camp beneath the impressive Barranco Wall.
After breakfast, tackle the famous Barranco Wall with assistance from your experienced guide. The climb involves some steeper sections but does not normally require technical climbing. Once above the wall, continue across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. Enjoy beautiful views of Kibo Peak before resting at camp.
After breakfast, continue toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit. The landscape becomes increasingly rocky and barren as you climb higher. Arrive at camp and have lunch before spending the afternoon resting and preparing your equipment for the summit. Enjoy an early dinner and sleep early because the summit attempt begins around midnight.
Your summit day begins around midnight. Trek slowly through the darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim. Continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m. Reach the summit around sunrise, weather permitting, and celebrate your achievement while taking photographs. Begin the descent to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, begin your final descent through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The lower you descend, the warmer and greener the environment becomes. At the gate, complete the park exit procedures and receive your summit certificate if applicable. Meet your vehicle and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
Starts in Arusha/Moshi, ends in Moshi.
