Join us for a seven-day adventure on the beautiful Lemosho Route, one of the scenic ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. This route takes you through different landscapes, from the lush rainforest to open moorland, rocky alpine terrain, and the high-altitude slopes leading towards Africa's highest point. Your journey begins on the western side of the mountain, where our local mountain team will welcome you and guide you through the trek. Along the way, you will enjoy views of the surrounding wilderness, camp beneath the mountain sky, and experience the challenge of climbing at high altitude. The route passes through areas such as Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Valley, and the slopes approaching Barafu Camp. Summit night is the toughest part of the climb, as you make your way towards Stella Point and, conditions permitting, Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres. At Kiwia Africa Tours, we want every climber to feel supported throughout the journey. Our mountain crew helps with camp arrangements, meals, route guidance, and encouragement along the trail. We also allow time for gradual acclimatisation, although reaching the summit cannot be guaranteed. This trek is suitable for travellers with good general fitness who are prepared for several consecutive days of walking and the challenges of high altitude. Previous mountain trekking experience is helpful but not essential. Training beforehand and following your guide's advice are important. Come and take on the challenge of Mount Kilimanjaro with our local team. We will do our best to make your journey safe, rewarding, and memorable.

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where our team will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. After checking in, relax and meet your mountain guide for a trek briefing and equipment check. We will explain what to expect on the mountain and answer any questions before the climb.

After breakfast, we drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the trailhead. Our trek begins in the beautiful rainforest, surrounded by tall trees, ferns, moss-covered branches, and birds. The trail can be muddy and slippery after rain, so take your time and follow your guide's pace. - Starting altitude: Approximately 2,100–2,400 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 2,650–2,895 m - Distance: About 6 km - Trekking duration: 3–4 hours - Environment: Montane rainforest, humid air, shaded trails
Today, we leave the rainforest and climb through giant heather and open moorland towards the Shira Plateau. The landscape becomes more open, with rocky ground, volcanic formations, and wide mountain views. On a clear day, you may see Kibo rising ahead. - Starting altitude: Approximately 2,650–2,895 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 3,850 m - Distance: About 12–16 km, depending on the trail variation - Trekking duration: Approximately 6–8 hours - Environment: Moorland, heather, open ridges and volcanic terrain
We continue across the high plateau towards Lava Tower, climbing into a dry, rocky landscape with very little vegetation. We reach approximately 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp. This climb-high, sleep-lower approach helps your body adjust to the altitude. - Starting altitude: Approximately 3,850 m - Highest point: Lava Tower, approximately 4,630 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 3,960 m - Distance: About 10–12 km - Trekking duration: Approximately 6–8 hours - Environment: Alpine desert, exposed volcanic rock, cooler and windier conditions
After breakfast, we tackle the famous Barranco Wall. Some sections are steep and require careful footing, but it is generally a hiking scramble rather than technical rock climbing. Our guides will help you navigate the trail safely. Beyond the wall, we cross ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp. - Starting altitude: Approximately 3,960 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 4,035 m - Distance: About 5 km - Trekking duration: Approximately 4–5 hours - Environment: Rocky ridges, alpine desert and exposed mountain slopes
We continue climbing across rocky terrain towards Barafu Camp, our base for the summit attempt. Vegetation becomes scarce, and the air is thin and cold. After arriving, we have an early meal, check our summit equipment, and rest as much as possible before the night climb. - Starting altitude: Approximately 4,035 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 4,640–4,673 m - Distance: About 4 km - Trekking duration: Approximately 4–5 hours - Environment: Alpine desert, loose rock, cold temperatures and possible strong winds
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the climb. We leave Barafu during the night and slowly ascend over steep scree and rocky ground towards Stella Point on the crater rim. If your health and weather conditions allow, we continue to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photographs at the summit, we descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp. The descent is long, and loose gravel can make the trail tiring on your knees. - Starting altitude: Approximately 4,640–4,673 m - Summit altitude: 5,895 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 3,100 m - Distance: About 5 km ascent plus 12 km descent - Trekking duration: Approximately 10–14 hours in total, sometimes longer - Environment: Freezing summit conditions, possible ice and snow, exposed volcanic slopes, followed by upper mountain forest
After breakfast, we make our final descent through the rainforest towards Mweka Gate. The trail can be damp, muddy, and slippery, particularly after rain. At the gate, we complete the exit formalities and receive a summit certificate according to the altitude reached. Our vehicle then transfers you back to Moshi, where you can shower, rest, and celebrate completing your climb. - Starting altitude: Approximately 3,100 m - Ending altitude: Approximately 1,640 m at Mweka Gate - Distance: About 10 km - Trekking duration: Approximately 3–4 hours - Environment: Rainforest, damp soil, muddy trails and warmer air at lower elevations
