Depart from Moshi for a short drive to the Umbwe Gate to complete park registration and meet your mountain crew. Begin your trek immediately through a dense, pristine rainforest along a steep and narrow ridge. The trail can be quite muddy and steep, offering a true wilderness feel as you climb steadily under a thick canopy of giant trees. Arrive in the late afternoon at Umbwe Cave Camp for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay in mountain tents.
Leave the rainforest behind as the trail steepens and climbs through the moorland zone, offering stunning views of the towering Western Breach and Kibo glaciers. Continue ascending along a rocky ridge before descending slightly into the lush, dramatic Barranco Valley. Arrive at Barranco Camp by early afternoon, giving you plenty of time to rest, acclimatize, and enjoy dinner surrounded by massive cliffs and the iconic Great Barranco Wall.
Face the thrilling challenge of climbing the Great Barranco Wall right at the start of the day, using your hands and feet to navigate the steep cliff face with the guidance of your crew. Once at the top, enjoy rolling ridge-and-valley terrain beneath the southern icefields of Kibo. Arrive at Karanga Camp by midday for a hot lunch, giving you an afternoon of valuable rest and acclimatization in the high alpine desert before dinner and overnight.
Trek out of the alpine desert as the landscape becomes increasingly stark, rocky, and barren. Climb steadily up the exposed ridge to reach Barafu Camp by early afternoon. Spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating, eating an early dinner, and organizing your equipment for the midnight summit push with magnificent views of Mawenzi and Kibo.
Awake around midnight for the demanding final summit attempt. Climb steeply up the loose gravel and rocky switchbacks between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers to reach Stella Point on the crater rim. Continue along the snowy crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the roof of Africa, just in time for sunrise. Take your celebratory photos, then descend back down to Barafu Camp for a short rest and hot lunch before continuing your descent to Millennium Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain, followed by a celebratory song and dance appreciation ceremony with your Tanzania Daily Tours & Safari mountain crew. Descend through the scenic, lush rainforest zone down to Mweka Gate, where you will sign out, collect your official summit certificates, and meet your private transfer vehicle for the drive back to Moshi for a hot shower and celebration.
