Zanzibar is the perfect finish to a safari or climb, and works just as well as a standalone escape. This four day itinerary balances culture and pure beach time. You start in Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Swahili, Arab, Persian, Indian, and European influences have blended for centuries in a maze of carved doors, bazaars, and rooftop terraces. A guided spice farm tour explains why these islands were once the center of the global clove trade. Then you transfer to the northern tip of the island for two nights in Kendwa, whose west-facing beach has calm swimming all day and the island's best sunsets. A morning boat trip takes you snorkeling over the coral gardens of the Mnemba Atoll conservation area, home to more than 600 fish species and green sea turtles.

Meet your guide at Zanzibar Airport or the ferry terminal. Check in at a boutique hotel inside Stone Town, then set out on a two to three hour walking tour: the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, the former slave market and Anglican cathedral, Freddie Mercury's birthplace, and the carved-door alleys of the bazaar. Finish with sunset at the Forodhani night food market, where you can try Zanzibar pizza and grilled seafood skewers.
Morning visit to a working spice farm outside Stone Town. Your guide lets you smell, touch, and taste cloves, vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon, and the famous lipstick fruit, and explains how the spice trade shaped the island's history. After a traditional Swahili lunch at the farm you transfer north (about 1.5 hours) to Kendwa. The rest of the afternoon is yours: swim, kayak, or just watch the dhows sail past at sunset.
A morning boat trip to the Mnemba Atoll marine conservation area, about 45 minutes along the coast. Two snorkeling stops over the coral gardens: expect parrotfish, angelfish, moorish idols, and frequent sightings of green sea turtles and playful dolphins. Fresh fruit and drinks on board. Back at Kendwa by early afternoon for a free beach afternoon; optional sunset dhow cruise.
A slow morning on the beach, a last swim, and check-out at noon. Private transfer back to the airport or ferry (about one hour). If your flight is late we can arrange a day room or a final lunch in Stone Town.

Perfect honeymoon finish
We did this straight after a safari and it was exactly what we needed. Kendwa sunsets are unreal, the Mnemba snorkeling had turtles within ten minutes, and the Stone Town walk was genuinely fascinating, not a tourist trap.
